Our Products

ICT supplies chirality-enriched and chirality-purified SWCNTs by custom order. We offer both DNA- and surfactant-dispersed products and work with customers to determine the extent of purification necessary for their application.

DNA-Extracted SWCNTs

Highest purity SWCNTs can be extracted by means of DNA wrapping. Certain DNA sequences exhibit molecular recognition with certain  SWCNTs. This method is unfortunately quite expensive due to the cost of DNA.

Advantages of DNA wrapping/extraction:

  • Very high chirality purity achievable (>95% for selected species)

  • The DNA-SWCNT product is a stable colloid - no surfactant presence necessary

  • The DNA-SWCNT "Perceptron" can be used for bio-sensing

  • Extraction of left- and right- handed SWCNTs is feasible

Disadvantages of DNA extraction:

  • High cost of DNA limits scale

  • Direct DNA extraction couples the nanotube chirality to the DNA sequence used for separation, limiting flexibility in the final surface chemistry.

Surfactant-Extracted SWCNTs

Combinations of cholates and other surfactants can be used to extract SWCNTs. Extraction purity varies, and often multiple "orthogonal" purifications must be used. Nevertheless, due to the lower cost of surfactants, this can be an advantageous route.

Advantages of surfactant extraction:

  • Larger quantities available

  • Purification can be decoupled from final surface chemistry, allowing purified SWCNTs to be subsequently exchanged into different DNA sequences or other dispersants.

  • Surfactant may be washed off with solvents, leaving clean SWCNTs

Disadvantages of surfactant purification

  • Typical chirality purity may be lower than DNA-based extraction and depends strongly on species and processing route.

  • Minimum concentration of surfactant required to maintain colloidal stability
